Happy 190th Hiram Christian Church!
March 2, 2025 marked the observance of the 190th anniversary of the Hiram Christian Church. The church was founded in 1835 and has been a fixture in the Hiram community ever since. I attended the church pot luck dinner following the Sunday service. I was amazed at the vast quantities of food that had been prepared for the event, along with a large sheet cake to celebrate the anniversary. The room was filled with conversation and laughter. HCC events remind me of family gatherings as there is always an abiding sense of togetherness. Walking around the room before the event began, I was struck by the numerous place cards on all of the tables. It seemed an odd formality to assign seating for such an occasion. But upon closer inspection, I realized that the names on the place cards were all deceased congregants. Such a poignant way to honor these people, and include them in the anniversary.
