Welcome to Hiram - Richard and Pat Nixon pass through Hiram Ohio in October 1972. In this rather eerie composite, the original BW photo has been carefully aligned with the modern view taken at the exact same vantage point as the historic photo. This project actually caused goosebumps on my skin as the two photos finally came into alignment. I imagined the presidential limousine cruising past me as I stood alongside Route 82 on a cold January day, camera in one hand, iPad in the other, trying to figure out exactly where the photographer stood. Note the angry group of student protesters waving signs. The old gas station still remains, although a second storey was added. Time separation 45 years. (Original photo courtesy of Alan Donley)
Composite view of the former Hitchcock & Latimer funeral home in West Farmington Ohio. In this image, the historic photo froms the background with the color portion showing the house as it appears today. The house is now a private residence but the current owner kindly allowed me access. I wandered about, taking photos from many angles while I tried to get a sense for the energy of the place. I stood where the little boys stood and tried to imagine what it must have been like growing up here. I wondered if they are still alive. Time separation nearly 70 years.
